Basic Essentials (about $10, or stuff you have already):

  • Paper

  • No. 2 yellow Pencil

  • Pen, sharpie or felt tip.

  • Colored pencils or crayons, or markers

Expanded Supplies (about $40):

  • A set of pencils, most useful are 4H, and 2B.

  • White eraser.

  • Fancier Paper, such as drawing paper, or sketchbook paper.  Regular drawing paper is fine, but if you want to start watercoloring over your sketches, you might like a mixed-media sketchbook with heavier paper. This can be a sketchbook or a pad of paper, but should be 12 x 16 or 9 x 12.

  • Micron Pigma pens, 1 and 05 or 08.

  • Inktense or Faber-Castell or Crayan D'ache set of set of 12 watercolor pencils.

  • Pencil sharpener with a reservoir built in for the shavings.

Watercolor optional add-ons:

Pre-filled watercolor supplies cart on DickBlick.com online art supply store:

  • Watercolor kit, with at least six colors, one light and one dark of each primary. White and earth tones are not needed. Please do not buy student grade paint—some good brands are Lukas, Daler-Rowney, or the mid-levels of Windsor-Newton. the high end of Windsor-Newton is too pricey and the student grade to cheap. Cotman Watercolors are fine, and come in a nice field kit. Check the Dick Blick cart linked above for some precise suggestions.

  • a small set of brushes or one good brush.

  • Watercolor paper, 9 x 12 or 12 x 16 in. or mixed media paper that you have from the June drawing class.

    From home you will need:

  • A small cup for water, paper towels, a white plate for color mixing.
